React or Vue for a shop frontend? An honest comparison

Both are excellent. The right answer depends far less on the framework than on who maintains it after we leave.

The Shopware angle

The Shopware 6 administration is Vue. If your team already customises the admin, Vue keeps one mental model across the whole project and any Shopware developer can pick it up. That is a real, boring, valuable advantage.

The hiring angle

React has a bigger talent pool and a bigger ecosystem, especially for complex dashboards and data-heavy back offices. If the thing you are building is really an application with a shop attached, React's ecosystem will save you time.

What actually decides it

Neither framework will be your bottleneck. Your bottleneck will be the API design, the caching strategy and whether anyone wrote tests. Pick the one your team can maintain, then spend the saved argument time on those three things.

Our default

Vue for anything living inside or next to Shopware. React for standalone portals, dashboards and customer back offices. We will happily do the opposite if your team is already good at one of them.

Key takeaways
  • Vue inside Shopware, React for standalone apps.
  • Maintainability beats framework preference.
  • The API design will hurt you long before the framework does.

We do this for a living — Shopware, Node.js, React, ERP integration and automation for B2B.
