Shopware 6 vs Odoo: is your shop a shop, or a module of your ERP?

Odoo gives you commerce inside the ERP. That solves your integration problem and creates a storefront problem. Which one hurts more?

The strongest argument for Odoo

There is no integration. Stock, prices, customers, invoices and the shop share one database, so the entire class of problems we usually get hired to solve simply does not exist. If your biggest pain today is that your shop and your ERP disagree, that is a genuinely powerful answer and you should take it seriously.

The storefront is the price you pay

Odoo's website builder is an ERP vendor's website builder. It is fine. It is not a commerce platform built by people obsessed with conversion, merchandising, CMS flexibility and search relevance. If your storefront is a differentiator — if design, content and UX are part of why customers buy from you — you will feel constrained quickly.

Lock-in of a different flavour

Odoo is open source, but the practical lock-in is deep: your accounting, inventory, CRM and shop become one organism. Replacing the shop later means either living with an integration you avoided in the first place, or replacing everything. Decide that with open eyes.

The pattern we recommend most often

Odoo as the ERP, Shopware as the storefront, and a small, boring, well-monitored middleware between them. You get the commerce platform that sells and the ERP that runs the business, and neither one is pretending to be the other. Yes, that middleware is work — it is also the work that pays for itself.

Key takeaways
  • If the shop is a side effect of the ERP, Odoo alone is fine.
  • If the storefront sells, Odoo's website builder will constrain you.
  • Odoo ERP + Shopware storefront + boring middleware is our usual answer.

We do this for a living — Shopware, Node.js, React, ERP integration and automation for B2B.
